About Star City - Cosmonaut Training Center
Firstly, this place was named as Star City near the sixteenth of the twentieth century, when there were a lot of space programs in the Soviet Union. There was a time, when the USSR government provided a lot of trainings for the future cosmonauts. Then on the eleventh of January, nineteen sixty, this place was named as Cosmonaut Training Center (СТС) and after the first flight of Yurij Gagarin, the name of the Cosmonaut Training Center start to use his name, and that’s why after the nineteen sixty eight, the Star City became Yu.A.Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the government of the Russian Federation continue developing the scientific and technical potential and that’s why today there are also a lot of space programs. And in the nineteen ninety five the Cosmonaut Training Center (CTC) was renamed into GCTC: Yurij Alekseevich Gagarin State Scientific Research-and-Testing Cosmonaut Training Center.
When in the Soviet Union was an Age of Space (in the middle sixteenth of the twentieth century), there were a lot of houses, buildings etc, which were situated near the Cosmonaut Training Center. And there was a territory, where the space scientists, first cosmonauts and all members of their families lived in. Also, an amount of buildings in this City became much grower every day, when the government of USSR expansion the space program. Today there are about seventy percent of people, who are living there and continue to work in the space sphere. The population of the Star City is about six thousand people.
Today the Star City consists on two parts: the first one – is the part for the cosmonauts, where they can have trainings, and other part – is a place for the civilian and military people, who serving the place of the cosmonauts' trainings. And also in this facility there are a lot of buildings, in which the cosmonauts and their family members live in. Today it's an open territory, but in the Soviet Union this Star City was highly secretive and it was protected by an army, militaries and other organizations.
A lot of people all over the world are interested in the creation of the name Star City. But nobody can say exactly, how it appeared. Also in the Soviet Union all people can see this place by TV-set, but nobody knows, where it is situated. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the information about Star City stopped to be a secret, but today you also can't find it on the maps of Russian Federation.
Today there is situated a monument of the Yurij Gagarin, which was installed in two years after his first flight.
